Ricardo Marvão
Co-founder - Beta-i
Ricardo Marvão is the co-founder of Beta-i, a collaborative innovation platform with global reach started in 2010 and the main builder of the startup ecosystem in Lisbon, experts in designing and managing projects for large corporations around the world from strategy to pilot testing and venture building. Beta-i’s main industries are Energy, Healthcare, Oceans and Sustainability.
He has raised a €21M pre-seed fund and has invested in over 60 startups.
He has also co-founded a number of educational projects in Portugal like Próxima Geração (an academy for the next generation of young politicians), the Singularity University Portugal (training thousands of corporate executives per year), the European Innovation Academy (massive entrepreneurship summer school for 500 global university students per year, running now for 9 straight years), Native Scientists “Same Home Town” (science education for primary school through a global network of 1000 PhDs impacting over 5000 students), and the "Space for Business" post-graduate program with ESA and business schools St. Gallen, RSM, Bocconi, IE and NovaSBE.
Ricardo has over 10 years of international experience in the Space Industry, sending satellites to space, working for ESA, Inmarsat, Airbus, Embraer and many others in several continents. He also co-founded in 2005 a startup in the space industry which he sold back in 2010 to a large IT international corporation.
He currently lives in Brussels with his wife and his two boys.
