AI-Readiness and Assessment (AIRA) Research Group Leader - Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology (LIST)
German Castignani leads the AI Readiness and Assessment (AIRA) Research Group at the Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology (LIST). He has a strong track record in data and AI topics, applied to the field of vehicular technologies, mobility analytics, mobile sensing, intelligent transport systems (ITS), energy and smart cities.
He currently coordinates the operations of the reference AI Testing and Experimentation Facilities (TEF) for smart communities. This initiative places a strong emphasis on AI-enabled Local Digital Twins and interoperability—key pillars to accelerate the adoption of AI and data technologies in urban ecosystems.
Before joining LIST, German was a research associate at the Interdisciplinary Centre for Security, Reliability and Trust (SnT), where he co-founded Motion-S, the centre’s first spin-off in mobility analytics and driving profiling, serving the automotive and insurance sectors.
He has contributed to numerous national and international research projects and published extensively in his fields of expertise. In parallel, he actively supports research valorisation, mentoring emerging ventures and advising initiatives that bridge scientific innovation and market application.
